What happens at a newborn photography session

IMG_0416.jpeg

Have you ever wondered what exactly happens at a newborn photo session? It may seem obvious to some from the pictures. You bring your sweet cuddly newborn fresh out of the hospital at 5-14 days old and the photographer takes pictures of them swaddled up and sleepy.

But for first time parents choosing posed newborn photography they may be panicking and wondering what happens if their baby doesn’t cooperate.

Your baby runs the show

First, we want you to know that ultimately your baby runs the show. They are given ample time to eat, burp, and be soothed. Lia Christina specializes in posed newborn photography which means she has taken annual courses on newborn safety, infant and adult first aid/CPR, and workshops on soothing your newborn.

Lia also belongs to multiple international organizations for accredited newborn photographers and is a member of prestigious mentorship with one of the leading posed newborn photographers in the United States.

Every trick and task will be taken to soothe your baby and ensure that they are snug as a bug.

Swaddling like a pro - it’s what we do!

When you arrive you will have followed a carefully formulated prep guide. Lia and her assistant will be ready and waiting to swaddle your sweet baby for the first position which is called “potato”. In this pose baby is wrapped up and positioned carefully in a newborn poser. These photos are some of Lia Christina’s favorites because it often shows the progression of your baby going from alert to sound asleep.

Baby in a bucket

After the potato pose, Lia will carefully unwrap your baby and slowly move their cute arms out of the wrap. The wrap stays in place to help them feel safe and secure.

Bucket posing is an incredibly advanced method. It should never been done by someone who is not knowledgeable of keeping airways clear, and trained in properly placing infants in the bucket. A patented system inside the bucket is designed to perfectly fit each infant, no matter the size or length.

Posing cot and table

From the bucket, your sweet baby will then be posed in a variety of relaxed positions on our posing cot as well as on our newborn posing table. Not every baby will be comfortable or ready to do the same posing. As we mentioned, your baby runs the show. If they show any signs of discomfort we stop immediately and either give them time to adjust or move on to a different pose. It is absolutely normal for a baby to suckle on a pacifier during this portion of the session. They will settle quickly and we will make sure they feel safe and secure.

Family posing

We end the session by bringing your gorgeous family back together! Baby is wrapped up and looking very cute while snuggled with parents and siblings. We do a variety of posing so you are sure to purchase what you love! Family posing looks absolutely beautiful as a canvas gallery on your walls.
